The old man sits in a silent peace
amidst the confusion and chaos
of a people gone mad in panic
running from Death,
but Death is everywhere,
and he is not afraid,
for he has lived his life
and is looking forward to freedom
from his earthly restraints
and the evils man has created;
he looks sympathetically
into the faces of children
bewildered, not able to
understand this final sin of man,
a sin willingly entered
by men they were taught to trust,
men they never knew,
but men that had destroyed their futures
and experiences of Life;
he once thought there was Hope for mankind
but now he knows there is none
for the ultimate lesson in
Fear and Destruction,
Life and Death,
is about to be taught;
an ominous thunder fills the air,
all is silent,
and a lonely tear falls from his eye;
a bright flash obscures his vision,
then darkness.
